Kevin Richards is the Founder and Chair of the Bermuda Innovation and Technology Association (BITA), a nonprofit organization focused on supporting dialogue, policy engagement, and ecosystem development across emerging technology sectors in Bermuda.

His work spans the intersection of technology, infrastructure, and public–private collaboration, with a focus on how emerging systems can be responsibly introduced within well-governed jurisdictions. Bermuda has served as a central anchor for this work, providing a practical environment in which global ideas can be discussed, tested, and refined.

A Systems-Oriented Approach

Richards’ perspective has been shaped by experience across global financial services, technology-enabled infrastructure, and international ecosystem development. Throughout his career, he has focused less on technology cycles and more on the systems that enable durable innovation over time.

This approach emphasizes governance, institutional readiness, and long-term alignment—recognizing that technology delivers value only when it is integrated thoughtfully into existing economic, regulatory, and social structures.

Bermuda as a Convening Platform

Richards’ engagement with Bermuda reflects a belief that small, well-governed jurisdictions can play an outsized role in shaping how emerging technologies are discussed and governed.

Bermuda’s regulatory maturity, proximity to global markets, and depth of expertise across financial services, insurance, maritime, and ocean-adjacent sectors position it as a credible forum for international dialogue. Through BITA, Richards has worked to support collaboration that strengthens Bermuda’s participation in global technology conversations.

The Role of BITA

As Founder and Chair, Richards helps guide BITA’s mission to support education, advocacy, and inclusion across Bermuda’s emerging technology ecosystem.

BITA’s role is not to commercialize technology or promote specific solutions, but to:

  • Convene stakeholders
  • Encourage informed policy dialogue
  • Support ecosystem development
  • Promote responsible and inclusive innovation

This focus on neutrality and stewardship is central to BITA’s nonprofit mandate.

Parallel Professional Engagements

In parallel with his nonprofit work, Richards is involved in advisory and platform-level initiatives focused on technology-driven infrastructure and systems development. These activities are conducted independently of BITA, with a clear separation between nonprofit ecosystem engagement and commercial or advisory work.

This separation ensures that BITA remains a neutral and credible forum for dialogue.

Looking Forward

Richards’ ongoing focus is on how emerging technologies—particularly those connected to data, infrastructure, and ocean-adjacent systems—can be integrated responsibly within both global and island-based contexts.

Through BITA, the aim is to contribute to informed discussion and long-term thinking that supports Bermuda’s continued relevance in an increasingly technology-driven world.
